Is It Possible to Obtain Turkish Citizenship by taking Tourist Residency Permission?
As it is known, the number of foreigners living in Turkey is increasing day by day. According to the data obtained from Turkish Statistical Institute, totally 650.308 foreigners live in Turkey. These people continue to live in Turkey by taking residency permission and the majority of those are planning to obtain Turkish Citizenship by actualizing necessary conditions. One of the necessary conditions so as to get Turkish Citizenship is to live in Turkey at least 5 Years legally.
Although it is necessary to live in Turkey legally at least 5 years, some types of residency permissions do not give foreigners a right to apply Turkish Citizenship in spite of that these people stay Turkey 5 years.
According to the Article 16/2.c of the Turkish Citizenship Code Application Regulations, although the touristic residency permission is one of the legal type of residency permissions and gives foreigners to stay in Turkey legally, one who stayed in Turkey with touristic residency permission shall not apply for obtaining Turkish Citizenship although he/she stay more than 5 years in Turkey.
